Court of Chevaliers

Oregon Chevaliers

A Court of Chevaliers is made up entirely of Chevaliers.

The function of the Court is to confer the Degree of Chevalier on those named by DeMolay International’s Supreme Council and to aid in all areas where DeMolay may be furthered through the participation of Chevaliers. In receiving the Chevalier degree, all Chevaliers have been obligated to perpetual service to DeMolay, and they should keep this uppermost in mind.

Chevalier Degree History

In the early 1930โ€™s DeMolay founder Frank S. Land had been thinking of an honor he could bestow on DeMolays and Senior DeMolays for outstanding service to the Order. He wanted to honor them now, instead of waiting for them to be nominated for the Legion of Honor in years to come. He also wanted to honor Senior DeMolays who had been working with chapters even though they were not Masons, but had performed outstanding service to the Order.

In those days, DeMolay was recognized by only about 50% of the Grand Lodges, consequently many Senior DeMolays were active in chapters due to the lack of Masonic support. In November of 1936, โ€œDADโ€ Land, assisted by Harold Bergstresser and John McKibben, proceeded to write a Ritual for the conferral of the Chevalier Degree. This became a reality in March, 1937 and โ€œDADโ€ Land began to nominate DeMolays and Senior DeMolays for this distinguished honor.

Mother Chapter, of course, had the first investiture and it was held June 2, 1937 at the Little Theater in the Municipal Auditorium. Forty-one active DeMolays or Senior DeMolays of Mother Chapter were invested with the Degree on that date. John S. McKibben, Jr. was recognized as the first Chevalier, and the rest of the nominees were numbered accordingly.

Today, there are approximately 27,000 Chevaliers.

Court of Chevaliers

Chevalier Observance 2022 Photos

This yearโ€™s Chevalier observance is fast approaching, and the excitement is building! Last yearโ€™s observance was a memorable evening ofย fellowshipย and rekindling great memories. We plan on building upon that experience. Our hope and focus is to share this experience with as many fellowย Chevaliers as possible.ย The food will be incredible, the music will be incredible, and the guests will be, you guessed it, incredible!ย With that in mind, I am announcing the start of ticket sales. Here is your chance to, not only fulfill your obligation to celebrate Dad Frank S. Land and break bread with brother Chevaliers but see old friends and make new ones amongst your brethren.

Tickets are only $35.00 and include all the food, live music, and camaraderie you can handle.ย Considering how many cases of wine went out the door last year Iย would say the beverage was popular!ย There will be a No-Host Bar featuring local wine from Dโ€™Anu Winery and NW Beer. Tickets must be purchased in advance.ย Please do not wait, as seating is limited.

The location is the same as last year, at the Dโ€™Anu Winery Tasting Room, 173 NE 3rdย Avenue, Suite 107, Hillsboro 97124.ย We look forward to seeing you on November 8thย as we celebrate this special occasion.
